The owners of this 1930’s property in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, loved the look for their original timber windows however the maintenance had become too onerous. Add this to the lack of thermal and acoustic insulation and the owners felt it was time to change them without having a significant impact on the aesthetics.
The house features a number of bay windows, and the glazing was decorated with square leads, two features that the owners wanted to preserve. In order to achieve the duel of maintaining the appearance while benefiting from all the advantages of uPVC our approved installer Cherwell Windows recommended the Evolution wood effect flush window.
The Benefits of Evolution Wood Effect Flush Windows
This project is a clear example of how Evolution windows are ideal for post war homes, fitted with original timber windows. The owners wanted to retain the authentic 1930s heritage appearance of their bay windows, including square leaded lights, while gaining all the performance benefits of modern windows. Our flush casement system makes this possible. Designed from the outset as a timber-alternative window, it provides a genuine solution for this particular house style.
Each window is mechanically jointed, with flush casements, deep timber-look cills and the entire finish has a deep woodgrain texture. All Evolution windows are designed to mirror the appearance of original timber joinery as closely as possible. With slim, equal sightlines and balanced fixed and opening sections, these flush casements deliver not only authenticity, but architectural balance. The glazing is internally beaded for added security, while multipoint locking and high-specification 28mm thick units help deliver energy performance far beyond the original timber windows being replaced.
Heritage Detailing with Modern Performance
For this installation in High Wycombe, particular attention was given to the window layout across the nine bay windows. Each window features lower-level side-hung casements with fixed panels and top-hung fanlights above. The result is consistent sightlines, equal glass sizes, and a design that stays true to the home’s period styling. By replicating the original square leads, the replacement windows retain their distinctive character too.
At Evolution, we are the first and only window and door company focused solely on crafting timber-look, period and heritage windows and doors. Every product is bespoken to your precise sizes, colour choice and right down to contemporary or heritage hardware like monkey tail or pear-drop handles. Mostly hand-made, always hand finished, they perfectly reflect the luxury and quality of traditional joinery.
The owners of this property in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire are very happy with the new Evolution wood effect flush windows.
